My inspiration has been discarded

Hello.

I have been practising my embroidery skills and I was very pleased with my last result.

I had plans to use them on a little top I had made from calico
or at least on some bottoms I wanted to make to match.

I finished the top and edged 'adore' embroidery with ric rac and sewd it on to the top.
Well it looked slightly ridiculous,  so I changed my mind and decided to unpick it and use it on some pants, maybe as a pocket.

Then I left it for a week or so.

When I finally finished this project I decided not to use it at all.
I completed the outfit with a ruffle skirt made from seersucker gingham.

I think the outfit has a wholesome feel to it.

So does anyone have any suggestions what I can use my embroidery for?
I'd love to hear your ideas.

♥♥♥

On a separate note, I reached a milestone today, exactly 16,000 views of my blog.
I'm sure it is not much compared to most of you all in blogland but I can't believe there have been that many people interested in seeing

"what i made today"

Thanks everyone for making it a good day :-)

School Skirt With Flat Piping and Pleated Pockets

Hello.

I made my little Kindy kid a new school skirt to wear in the Winter months.

I used the Lauren Twirl Skirt pattern I tested here but this time I added a couple of extra features.

I used the pleated pocket tutorial from Hart and Sew to add a couple of big pockets to the front.
I then separated the main part of the skirt from the band at the bottom with some flat piping.
I found a tutorial on how to do this here.

The skirt is made from broadcloth cotton

I think it should look really cute with some thick black tights and boots.

A $3 Skirt and More Bargain Finds

Hello.

I wanted to share some of the great op shop finds I have made over the last couple of weeks.
This skirt would have to be one of my favourite things.

Just check out this pocket. I just love it!
I am going to try to copy it on one of the next skirts I make.
It has lovely ribbon edging around the pocket and such pretty embroidery around the bottom.

 A pretty skirt for $3

Then I found a cool boys shirt.

Not bad for $3

For the first time I searched out sewing patterns at my local op shop and I found these ones.
I got the 3 patterns for $2
The PJ's (on the left) is size 2 and will perfectly suit my little one for next summer.
The skirt pattern is size 6. I don't have any one to fit it yet but I just LOVED it and couldn't not buy it.

This t-shirt pattern I bought to use as a standard t-shirt. It is size 4-5-6
so I will get some use out of it with my 4 & 5 year old.

That's it for today.
I'll be sure to share any other finds from my op shop adventures soon.

Wearing Their New Outfits and A Feature

Hello.

We went to my cousins daughters birthday party today.
I just had to share some pictures of my girls wearing their special outfits I made for the day.

I actually missed the opportunity to take a photo with the girls all new and neat, with shoes and socks and clean faces, but still got some nice pics none the less.

On the slide with the birthday girl...

...and with each other.

I made up a bib to match the dress yesterday to avoid any food spills.

The wonderful day ended a little like this...

Sweet dreams ♥

On another note.
Thanks guys!

They are having a linky party today so why not head over and show off some of your latest projects.
I'll see you there!

Pattern Tested

Hello.

The other day I replied to a request for a pattern tester from Jenilyn from Grits & Giggles.
She is about to release a new pattern for a girls skirt called the Lauren Twirl Skirt.
What a great pattern...so quick and easy.
Here are my skirts.

Well what can I say, it’s such a quick skirt to make. The longest part of making these skirts was choosing the fabric.
The first skirt (size 4) took 1 hour and it only took that long because I made it a double layered skirt.
I made it with ivory cheesecloth and covered the main part of the skirt with black lace that I edged with bias binding.
I pressed the seam of the main part of the skirt and the band up toward the skirt because I wanted the band to remain quite plain.
To finish the contrast band (which I made from the same fabric) I overlocked the bottom and just folded up the hem once, rather than doubling it up and hiding the raw edge like the pattern suggested.

The second one (size 1) took all of 1/2 an hour. Unreal!! I used co-ordinating cotton fabric in beige and black and trimmed it with cute black flower lace.

I just had to take the girls to the park and take some photos while they were enjoying their new skirts.

The girls enjoyed some lunch.
(Despite the look on their faces)

We even managed to feed the ducks.

We had a great day!

And regarding the pattern...I love it!
It would suit a beginner or a competent sewer. It ranges in size from 12 months to 5 years, so keep an eye out for it if you are looking for a basic girls skirt pattern that is quick easy and very pretty.
