Baby Shower Gifts Galore

Hello.

My best friends daughter is having a baby. I thought about what I could get her and it was obvious that it was going to be something I made.
This is what I ended up with.

The pattern I used for the top was Kwik Sew 3035.
Here and here are some other things I have made with this pattern.

I tried out a new technique - reverse applique.
I'm not sure if that is the technical term, but I think the result turned out how it should.
The top is made from poplin, cool for the summer.

Even with such thin fabric I couldn't manage a decent buttonhole with my machine.
I thought I'd stuffed up the top on the first buttonhole but I managed to unpick it without too much of a mess and decided to use press studs instead.

The pants are Rae's Big butt baby pants. I love this pattern.
Check out some other pants I made here and here.

We know a baby girl is on it's way so I just had to make a hair bow to match.
Let's hope she has enough hair to hold it :)

I also made up a dummy clip to match.

Then I made a couple of bibs,

and a travel wipe and nappy pouch.
I used this pattern and tutorial from Melissa Esplin.
Here is another one I made for myself.

And here is it all wrapped and ready to be given.

I hope she likes it ♥

"A Library Bag" made by my 10 year old.

Spot the dot library bag.

Hello.

My ten year old daughter loves playing around on my sewing machine.
She is always making litte bag's but this time she made a big bag.

My eldest daughter bought this fabric piece home from Poland
when she went on holidays earlier this year.

My 10 year old did everything herself when making this bag including cutting out the pieces, pinning and sewing up the bag. I only helped with ironing the straps.

I think it is a job well done!

Green Pleated Bag - Free Pattern & Tutorial

Hello.

I made this little bag up the other day.

I used the free pattern and tutorial I found here.

I like the way this bag turned out but next time I will make a few changes.
I don't like such a stiff bag so I will use a lighter weight interfacing and
I will move the straps a little closer to the middle.

It was supposed to close with a magnetic stud but I decided not to use one.
I figured the bag was deep enough that nothing was going to fall out.

I like having the pocket on the inside so I can easily find my phone.
I wanted to sew a little fob for my keys in the lining but I forgot. Grrrr...

I made my own navy piping which I am pleased with.
It is actually really easy and I'm going to use it much more often.

Nappy Clutch

I found a cute tutorial for a nappy pouch or a Poopy Clutch as it was called. I thought this might be a good idea to use as the bag I made is always so full and it's hard to find anything in there. Apart from that, the nappies are always getting scrunched up.

It was such an easy pattern and took no longer than 30 minutes to finish. It fits 2 nappies and a thin pack of wipes. It fastens with 1 single press stud and I think it looks great. I used the same material as the

Bags, Bags, Bags...

Hello again,
well I was up all last night making my new bag. It is the Rebeka Lambert Pleated Tote. I really love this pattern.

I wanted a neutral fabric so I made it out of a plain grey quilting cotton and a grey and white striped quilting cotton for the lining. I did have a couple of little issues in making this bag though. I had already made the Reversible Bucket Bag using the plain grey fabric as the lining and so when it came time to make the pleated tote I had already cut out the lining and one piece of the exterior. When I went to cut out the second piece of the exterior I realised I didn't have quite enough fabric left. The best I could do is cut the piece out with a small rectangle missing in the corner. I thought to myself "What am I going to do?" So I came up with some kind of a solution. I cut a little scrap of the plain grey and zigzaged it to finish the pattern piece. It looked realy ugly though so I took the same fabric I used for the internal pocket and cut out one of the butterflies. I stitched this over the repair.  My husband thought the finished result made it look like a label from a store bought bag. (Isn't he sweet) I put it at the back so it doesn't stand out too bad.

Another thing I had a problem with was that I didn't have enough medium weight interfacing for this bag so I had to use a light weight interfacing instead. I was worried that it wouldn't be stiff enough but I actually really like the bag the way it is. It has a much softer finish and is really comfy looking. I really love the thickness and length of the handles and overall size of the bag. The pleats give a feminine touch and I am HAPPY!

Here are some pics of my other bags I made using the Reversible Bucket Bag pattern.

The coloured bag was my first attempt. I'm pretty happy with this bag. It was the first time I made my own bias binding and was really happy with the result. The second attempt at this bag was with the butterfly fabric. I used shop bought bias binding and I was not as happy with this. I really think it is worth making your own. That way you can perfectly match it with the fabric of your bag and it will most likely be much better quality (thicker).
